Whitgift School Estates Department
Croydon, London

Our proposal for the new Estates Department at Whitgift School is strategic in achieving the masterplan’s aims of a safer campus, while also offering an opportunity for pupils to be exposed to sustainable modes of re-use, maintenance and recycling.

In 2018 we were commissioned by Whitgift School to prepare a masterplan study evaluating the needs of the school against their existing provision, as well as proposals as to how they might move forward as a sequence of standalone phases. One of the masterplan’s overall objectives is the creation of a safer campus, with vehicle movement and associated pollution and safety hazards removed from close to the school buildings. To achieve this, the school’s existing maintenance workshops and yard will be relocated to a new facility on the site that will comprise of two single-storey buildings, a yard containing a material store area, recycling compound, and associated landscaping.

One building, of traditional steel construction, will house welfare facilities for staff, and the maintenance workshops that see to the upkeep of the buildings and fabric of the school; the second building will be a construction kit and will be used as a store for grounds equipment, materials and vehicles.
