PRS Architects are thrilled to be part of the Staffordshire History Centre project opening today

The new £8.7m history centre housing valuable archives collections from Staffordshire opens today.

The Staffordshire History Centre, on Eastgate Street in Stafford, will welcome visitors on Wednesday after more than three years of work on the project. It will serve primarily as a storage facility for the county’s archives, with members of the public able to book appointments to have a look at the collections.

Staffordshire county councillor Victoria Wilson told BBC Radio Stoke the opening would be a “very exciting moment” for her.

“I cannot wait to throw the doors open to the public so they can look into this little window of the past to see what Staffordshire and history here is all about,” she said.

Tilbury on the Thames Trust Secures National Lottery Heritage Funding for Riverside Station Restoration

Tilbury on the Thames Trust in Partnership with The Port of Tilbury is celebrating the achievement of securing an incredible £4,478,310 in funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to deliver its ambitious plans to fully refurbish Tilbury’s Grade II listed historic Riverside Railway Station to bring the historic landmark back to life as a vibrant community location.

The funding for the Back on Track* project marks a milestone in the Trust’s efforts over a number of years to secure major funding to transform the railway station into an exciting space for community events, studios for local artists, and a place to enjoy a cup of coffee in a new riverside café while watching the ships go by along the Thames. The transformation will celebrate the building’s rich heritage, from the arrival of the Empire Windrush to its legacy as a key stop for cruise liners today and from a bygone era.

To mark the funding award, a new video has been released today: https://vimeo.com/1017920540/e3f5fb3402?share=copy

A new green space and improved facilities at West Reservoir

"These exciting plans for West Reservoir will help to make the site more accessible to the wider community, opening up a new public green space for Hackney, boosting biodiversity, and helping to create a greener, healthier borough."

-Cllr Caroline Woodley, Cabinet Member for Families, Parks and Leisure

Plans for a new green space, beginners’ open water swimming area, cafe and changing facilities at West Reservoir have been published by Hackney Council - with residents invited to have their say.

The plans are aimed at: opening up the east bank of West Reservoir so people can walk around it; boosting biodiversity; improving landscaping; and building a new accessible bridge across the New River.

At the West Reservoir Centre itself, proposals include: a dedicated beginners’ open water swimming area; an additional changing area inside the building, with showers, lockers and toilets; moving the cafe so it opens to outdoor seating areas; upgrading the events spaces; and, improvements to the boat workshop and learning spaces.

The plans are funded by £700,000 from the Mayor of London’s Green and Resilient Spaces Fund and £1.6m secured from developers.
